Rationale and Objective

The School of Joy is a 3-year pilot programme initiated by Ngee Ann Primary School with effect from January 2009

As a single-session school, NAPS is able to create more time and space for holistic learning. This is in line with the MOE Workplan 2008

SOJ seeks to rebalance the learning of content knowledge and the development of skills and values so that our young are prepared for the future

SOJ provides a creative, conducive, affirming and non-rountine classroom environment to educate and nuture the targeted pupils on the importance of character building, lifeskills, social entrepreneur skills and academic excellence

Strengths, Challenges and Support

Teachers deployment: One Dean of SOJ, One Senior Teacher, Two Teacher, Support Staffs

Lifeskills are incorporated e.g washing up after baking sessions

Small-class size enables differentiated teaching/learning to be carried out more effectively

Principal and Dean allow teachers to have flexibility when planning and designing schemes of work. They provide advice in developing a transdisciplinary programme of inquiry

Criteria are set to identify pupils to join SOJ
