PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
28th March 2008

In the Year of Victory last year, we learnt to acquire the three important ‘be’ attitudes in life:

  • be always thankful (a thankful heart releases power)
  • be always victorious (believe you can have victory and never give up)
  • be always a blessing to others (that’s the purpose for your life)

Indeed, we saw many victories at the school level in 2007. There was a breakthrough improvement in our PSLE results. We were recognized by MOE in their press release as one of the top 10 most improved schools. Our average T-Score aggregate was improved by 7.8 points from 208.4 in 2006 to reach 216.2. Our top pupil, Jolyn Khoo, also achieved an aggregate of 275 which was a record high in at least the last 5 years.

In aesthetics, we received the MOE’s Sustained Achievement Award for Performing Arts due to the excellence in Chinese Orchestra, Guzheng Ensemble and Chinese Dance. Our CCA groups also showcased their excellent skills and teamwork in a sold-out public performance at the National Library’s Drama Centre.

In sports, our table tennis senior boys emerged as the 2nd runner-up in the East Zone Inter-School Tournament and within top 8 positions in the National Tournament. Two of our pupils, Leon Goh and Arnold Teo, also emerged as Champion Stackers, and the school achieved the Overall School Champion in the Crazy Cups Challenge.

I believe there are also victories in each staff member and pupil as they grow to be a better person. 2007 marks only a new beginning of many victories in each of our lives. We will move from victory to victory as we continue to live out the three ‘be’ attitudes.

2008 is a Year of Excellence

This year, we will do three things:

  1. Remember the values of our forefathers.
Find answers to questions such as the followings:
    - Who founded the school?
    - Why did they found the school?
    - How did they found the school?
    - What has sustained the school’s success?
Then obtain understanding of the values of our forefathers and embrace them.

  2. Recreate a new mould in our minds.
A mould in our mind consists of what we think we are able to achieve and the patterns of things we do. To have excellence, you need to break the old mould and put a new mould in your minds. You need to:
    -  Imagine the excellence you can achieve and form a clear picture of your excellence in 2008.
    -  Do things differently.

  3. Rebuild a strong relationship among us.
    Excellence is a journey.
How boring and meaningless it is if you are alone on your journey of excellence!
How great the excellence can be if we work on it together as a team!
Therefore, we will rebuild a relationship of love and care among us. We will find joy and excitement in our journey of excellence as we encourage one another to persevere and to do our best.

I wish all of you a Year of Excellence!
